Hattrick is a 2007 Indian movie directed by Milan Luthria and starring Nana Patekar, Paresh Rawal, Rimi Sen, Danny Denzongpa, and Kunal Kapoor. The movie revolves around the lives of four characters who are affected by the 2007 Cricket World Cup in different ways. The movie is a blend of comedy, drama, romance, and sport, and explores themes such as patriotism, immigration, love, and friendship.

Plot Summary

The movie follows four parallel stories that intersect at various points. The first story is about Dr. Satyajit Chavan (Nana Patekar), a strict and arrogant doctor who hates cricket and forbids anyone in his home or hospital to watch or listen to it. He is married to Prateeksha (Prateeksha Lonkar), who secretly loves cricket and supports the Indian team. Dr. Chavan's life changes when he is diagnosed with lung cancer and has to undergo chemotherapy. He meets David (Danny Denzongpa), a former cricketer who is also suffering from cancer and is a die-hard fan of the Indian team. David tries to cheer up Dr. Chavan and convince him to watch cricket with him.

The second story is about Hemu Patel (Paresh Rawal), an airport janitor in England who has been living there for over 10 years. He has lied to everyone that he is a customs officer and is waiting for his citizenship. However, his fate depends on the immigration officer Cook (Richard Ashton), who hates all Patels and especially Sardar Vallabhai Patel, the first deputy prime minister of India. Hemu's life gets complicated when he finds out that his daughter Priya (Nauheed Cyrusi) is dating an English-African man named Silver (Graham McTavish), who is a cricket enthusiast and supports the England team.

The third story is about Kashmira (Rimi Sen), a newlywed woman who is unhappy with her marriage. Her husband Sarabjeet 'Saby' Singh (Kunal Kapoor) is a cricket fanatic and has neglected her ever since their wedding. He even postpones their honeymoon to watch the World Cup matches. Kashmira decides to take revenge on him by pretending to be pregnant and making him do various tasks for her. She also tries to learn cricket from her neighbor Anuradha (Zarina Wahab), who is a former women's cricket captain and a friend of David.

The fourth story is about a cameo appearance by John Abraham, who plays himself as a Bollywood star and a cricket lover. He meets Kashmira at a mall and agrees to help her with her plan to teach Saby a lesson.

Critical Reception

Hattrick received mixed reviews from critics and audiences. Some praised the movie for its humor, performances, and message, while others criticized it for its weak script, direction, and editing. The movie was also compared to Lagaan, another cricket-themed movie that was more successful and acclaimed. Hattrick was a moderate success at the box office, earning about Rs. 12 crore worldwide.
